What is it about Lazy Gamers.

I know a bunch of gamers. These guys love to play games, and play them often. They will go out of their way to make time for some games. But ask these folks to read some rules and well forget it. Not even the leaflet sized rules that accompany most euro games these days are going to be read by them. I just do not understand how you can have such interest in playing games but never take the time to actually learn the rules yourself. It's not like to takes a lot of time, or it is complicated.

Folks I know would rather be taught a game. Spoon fed the mechanics one by one like some child learning to do a connect the dots picture or something. What is it about game rules? If I like something and want to learn it I go read as much as I can about it. I do this with games and other hobbies, even History. So how can a group of guys I know love to play board games have so little drive to learn them on their own?

Is this common? Do other game groups have this issue?
