I sure Hope I didn't waste a bunch of cash.
So I have a copy of Fantasy Flight's Twilight Imperium Third editionShattered Empires expansion. I have owned the base game for about a year but never played it. I Picked up the addition soon after it came out in hopes of playing the game this year at my annual Birthday Game Bash in March. I have tried this in the past with another FFG game, A Game of Thrones and it went over like a fart in church. I mean there was little good to say about it for a number of reasons not all of which were on part of the game itself. So I hope i have learned from my mistakes; I am sending out plenty of game aids and examples ahead of time. I will make darn sure I know the game and can keep it moving with out my nose in the rule book the entire time. My only concern is that "the boys" will not like the game itself.
Those of you who have seen anything that I have posted on Boardgame Geek know that I tend to favor Multi-Player conflict game. The so called Ameritrash genre. In reality my relationship with these games can be more of a love hate relationship than a true love affair. I always get excited about playing them, and I am rather forgiving of a few house rules to make them "better", but more times than not they have a flaw or three. This usually renders then near unplayable by my normal game crew. Big involved games like this take a level of dedication that most in my gaming circle are not willing to commit to. 1 or 2 house rules is 1 or 2 more than they want. They like the idea of cracking out a Euro and playing it. If it works Great! if it doesn't then Great they are almost disposable. Also shorter games with a flaw tend not to cause anyone to complain, but a 5 hour plus monster like TI3 will net me plenty of bitching if it is lame.
Regardless I am pressing on. I only get one chance a year to dictate the game to be played and well I need to at least get this monster out of the box one time before it becomes a PBeM only affair.
Wish Me Luck
